In January I flew to Launceston with my touring bike and headed off on a two week adventure on the east coast of Tasmania. I first headed north of Launceston, spent a few nights on the coast then came inland to reach the east coast. I took my time riding down, stopping at all the towns and exploring their surroundings (when I had the energy to do so!). I also took the ferry to Maria Island where I spend two days walking and resting, embraced by the calmness of the island. My last day of cycling from Richmond to Hobart was cancelled because of a weather warning for flash floods..I was lucky to be picked up by some lovely folk and driven with my bike the final 20kms to Hobart town.
I spent the days cycling and camped in my tent each night, usually by the beach. I saw the full moon rise over the ocean at sunset and watched it progressively waning from that night onwards. I saw the sun rise and set each day…My hope for the trip was to spend as much time as possible outside, which I can happily say I did.
